Star Trek Movie USS Enterprise in orbit
I have to admit to something that I haven’t done in a long time. I’ve already seen the new Star Trek movie twice. I was skeptical when I first heard what they were going to do with the franchise. I was afraid of what they might do with the franchise. I was afraid that J.J. Abrams might kill it off permenantly. Fortunately, he did exactly what needed to happen. He gave it a new beginning whil being totally true to the characters and I believe the Spirit of Star Trek.
Chris Pine who is the new Kirk does an admirable job portraying the new Captain Kirk who grew up under different circumstances than the one we knew -yet was still absolutely convincing that at his heart and essence or his soul if you will, he is still the same man.
Zachary Quinto did an excellent job as Commander Spock, as did most of the other cast members. I was probably a little less convinced about Uhura and her romantic ideas concerning Spock.
The person though who was most comfortable in character who seemed to slide into the character as though it were meant for him is Karl Urban as Leonard (Bones) McCoy. He has a similar look and his mannerisms, his friendship with Kirk and everything else were dead on.

It was an absolute delight to see Leonard Nimoy, the original Spock in this movie. He provided the needed bridge to the original and the continuity. They left it open so that they could bring him back. I think however, now that the new cast and the new vision of Star Trek has beein established, it would be unwise to do so. It’ s time for this new team to stand on it’s own.
The film had a nearly 76million dollar take for the Thursday through Sunday take, meaning success of this movie is almost guaranteed which is great news for Star Trek fans. Apparantly, Paramount has already hired the writers back to begin working on the next one.
